The (belated) End

At no other time am I more predictable than when I am finishing, or better said, not finishing, this tour journal. Seriously, what’s my problem here? I don’t think I have ever once wrapped this thing up on time, instead I normally wait forever to finish it, then spend far too much time apologizing for not finishing it rather than just writing about what happened. Sound familiar? It should. It is what I’m doing now, after all.

So yeah, tour ended. A few weeks back actually. We’ve been home and working and wishing we were on the road since June 17th. The last leg of the tour was spent with The Gaslight Anthem. They hosted us in the beautiful Garden State and gave Freddy the nickname, Fritzy McNickleback Grizwald III Esquire LLC. It’s a good name, effortlessly rolls off the tongue. Feel free to call Freddy that the next time you see him. I would talk more about our time with Gaslight but I’m lazy and I also know that it probably won’t be the last time we hang out with them again. So they’ll make a more significant dent in the tour journal in the future. That is if future Brett gets around to writing about it. Present Brett will simply say that those guys are terrific people, an unbelievably good band, and that he can’t wait to again have the opportunity to watch them play every night. If you don’t already love that band, hurry up and do so. And catch them live somewhere. You won’t be disappointed.

We got back in Richmond just in time for my least favorite season, summer. It’s currently 100 degrees outside and humid and I can’t even think about it without breaking a sweat and getting all grumpy. I don’t think I’ll ever get used to the idea of showing up to every place I go drenched in sweat, day or night. I rode my bike to the post office today and couldn’t stop hating everything. If you’d like to argue with me about what’s worse, heat or cold, I will gladly do so. And I will win. Be warned.

I did take some time off of complaining about the heat and joined the rest of the band in the studio for a day. We finally got around to recording the EP that was supposed to be done before we left on tour. Better late than never I guess. I sent it out today to get mastered and hopefully it’ll be up and ready to be downloaded in a matter of weeks. We’re all pretty excited about it, and very happy to finally have a recording out that has the whole band represented on it. I’m guessing it’ll probably go diamond, most likely more. What do you call it when something goes past diamond? Double Diamond? Jared Diamond? If anyone knows Garth Brooks or U2 can you find out for me? I just need to know so I can more accurately refer to the amount of sales our new free digital EP is going to have.

We’re going on tour in September, when the weather stops being stupid. Until then, I’ll see you indoors.

Brett
